Sistemul TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)
The TPMS system monitors tire pressure in real time and alerts the driver via a warning light on the dashboard when pressure drops below the recommended level. A properly functioning TPMS increases safety, reduces fuel consumption, and extends tire lifespan.
How does TPMS work?
Individual wheel sensors or ABS-based sensors monitor tire pressure.
The data is transmitted to the TPMS control unit or the vehicle’s ECU, which activates the warning light if tire pressure drops by more than 25% below the optimal value. The dashboard warning symbol is usually a tire icon with an exclamation mark.
Types of TPMS systems
Direct TPMS:
Battery-powered sensors mounted inside each wheel, Measures the exact pressure of each tire
Immediate and highly accurate feedback
Indirect TPMS:
Uses ABS sensors to detect changes in wheel diameter
Less precise than direct TPMS, but more cost-effective
Safety: Prevents accidents caused by underinflated tires
Fuel economy: Correct tire pressure reduces fuel consumption
Tire lifespan: Even wear and prevention of premature degradation
