Sistemul TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)

The TPMS system monitors tire pressure in real time and alerts the driver via a warning light on the dashboard when pressure drops below the recommended level. A properly functioning TPMS increases safety, reduces fuel consumption, and extends tire lifespan.

How does TPMS work?

Individual wheel sensors or ABS-based sensors monitor tire pressure.

  • The data is transmitted to the TPMS control unit or the vehicle’s ECU, which activates the warning light if tire pressure drops by more than 25% below the optimal value. The dashboard warning symbol is usually a tire icon with an exclamation mark.

Types of TPMS systems

  • Direct TPMS:

    • Battery-powered sensors mounted inside each wheel, Measures the exact pressure of each tire

    • Immediate and highly accurate feedback

  • Indirect TPMS:

    • Uses ABS sensors to detect changes in wheel diameter

    • Less precise than direct TPMS, but more cost-effective

    •
System benefits

Safety: Prevents accidents caused by underinflated tires

  •   Fuel economy: Correct tire pressure reduces fuel consumption

  •   Tire lifespan: Even wear and prevention of premature degradation
